Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then found many other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.
City officials said they were working "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
An important political figure stated the incident rendered him without words and needed to be solved promptly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
